What is Psalm 94 talking about? ›

It is a call for God to rise up and act by bringing justice. Particular, the psalmist is calling for judgment against the proud, that they receive what they deserve. Again, we see that there is not a problem with asking God to administer justice.

1 O LORD God, to whom vengeance belongeth; O God, to whom vengeance belongeth, shew thyself. 2 Lift up thyself, thou judge of the earth: render a reward to the proud. 3 LORD, how long shall the wicked, how long shall the wicked triumph?

The Psalms celebrate that God is a good God.

God is holy, loving, merciful, protective of his people, faithful, a keeper of promises, a giver of good gifts. He protects the vulnerable in society — the widow, the fatherless, the outsider, and the poor — and expects his representatives on earth to carry out this mission.

As the psalmist says, “When the cares of my heart are many, your consolations cheer my soul” (Psalms 94:19). When our wounds are deep, God's healing goes deeper. When our troubles are broad, his help runs broader. When our cares are many, his consolations are more.

Guarding our hearts from a scriptural perspective means for us to be alert, through the power of Christ within us, to what enters and dwells in our hearts. We need to be aware of what we say and do, because over time, our thoughts and actions shape the status of our hearts.

These prayers are prophecies, which speak terror to the sons of violence. There will come a day of reckoning for all the hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against God, his truths, and ways, and people.

Bible students are not sure who wrote Psalm 94 or when. Maybe David wrote it. Maybe the psalmist (person who wrote the psalm) lived just before the exile. The exile was when the army from Babylon took the *Jews (people that were born from Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and their children) away from Judah.
