Subway and rail service changes: April 12-15, 2024 (2024)

Happy Friday! We're looking forward to one of the first truly warm weekends of the year. Whatever your plans to take advantage of it are, we've got the details on how to get around the city and beyond this weekend.

A note for our Manhattan riders:42 St Shuttle trains are running all weekend, including overnight, to provide additional service in Manhattan during other service changes.

Here's what's happening this weekend (also viewable as a handy map):

  • trains aren't running between 3 Av-149 St and 96 St.
  • trains aren't running at all.
  • trains aren't running between E 180 St and 149 St-Grand Concourse.
  • trains aren't running between Broadway Junction and Canarsie-Rockaway Pkwy.
  • ​trains aren't running between Kings Hwy and Coney Island-Stillwell Av.
  • Queens-bound​and late-night​trains are running on the​from DeKalb Av to Canal St.
  • Late-night​trains aren't running between Whitehall St and 59 St.

Major subway service changes

trains, the Bronx and Manhattan

trains aren't running between 3 Av-149 St and 96 St in either direction from 11:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of station improvement work.

  • For service between 3 Av-149 St and 96 St, take free shuttle buses, which are running along three routes:
    • Local between 3 Av-149 St and 96 St, making allstops.
    • Nonstop between 3 Av-149 St and 96 St.
    • Between 3 Av-149 St and 149 St-Grand Concourse.
  • ​trains are running in two sections:
    • Between Wakefield-241 St and 3 Av-149 St.
    • Between 96 St and Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College.

trains, Brooklyn and Manhattan

trains aren't running from 11:30 p.m. Friday and 5 a.m. Monday because of station improvement work.

  • For service between Harlem-148 St and 96 St, take free shuttle buses, which are making allstops.
  • For service between 96 St and Atlantic Av-Barlcays Ctr, take the.
  • For service between Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and Franklin Av-Medgar Evers College, takeortrains.
  • For service between Franklin Av-Medgar Evers College and New Lots Av, take the.
    • trains are running on the local track between Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and New Lots Av, making allstops, all weekend.

trains, the Bronx

trains aren't running between E 180 St and 149 St-Grand Concourse, and uptowntrains aren't stopping at 138 St-Grand Concourse, Saturday and Sunday. This is because of station improvement work.

  • For service between E 180 St and 3 Av-149 St, take the.
  • For service between 3 Av-149 St and 149 St-Grand Concourse, take free shuttle buses.
  • For uptown service at 138 St-Grand Concourse, take the.
  • trains are running in two sections during the day and evening:
    • Between Eastchester-Dyre Av and E 180 St.
    • Between 149 St-Grand Concourse and Bowling Green, every 20 minutes.

trains, Brooklyn

trains aren't running between Broadway Junction and Canarsie-Rockaway Pkwy in either direction from 3:30 a.m. Saturday to 10 p.m. Sunday because of track replacement work.

  • For service between Broadway Junction and Canarsie-Rockaway Pkwy, free shuttle buses are running on two routes:
    • L91 between Broadway Junction and Canarsie-Rockaway Pkwy, making allstops.
    • Nonstop between Broadway Junction and Canarsie-Rockaway Pwky.
    • When exiting the subway at Broadway Junction, Livonia Av, or Canarsie-Rockaway Pkwy, get a GO Ticket from a station agent to re-enter.
  • trains are running between 8 Av and Broadway Junction, approximately every 8 minutes during the day and evening and every 12 minutes overnight.

trains, Brooklyn and Manhattan

Queens-boundand late-nighttrains are running on thefrom DeKalb Av to Canal St from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of equipment installation.

  • For service to/from Jay St-MetroTech or Court St, use Borough Hall.
  • For service in Lower Manhattan, use nearbystations.

Late-nighttrains aren't running between Whitehall St and 59 St from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday, 11:45 p.m. Saturday to 6 a.m. Sunday, and 11:45 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday. This is because of equipment installation.

  • For service between Whitehall St and Jay St-MetroTech, take a Coney Island-boundor use nearbystations.
  • For service to/from DeKalb Av, taketrains.
  • For service between Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and 36 St, taketrains.
    • Coney Island-bound localtrains are running on the express track between these stations. For local service, take a Manhattan-bound train.
  • For service to 45 St and 53 St, take take the.
  • trains are running between 59 St and Bay Ridge-95 St.

trains, Brooklyn

trains aren't running between Kings Hwy and Coney Island-Stillwell Av in either direction from 11:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of accessibility improvement work.

  • For service between Kings Hwy and Coney Island-Stillwell Av, take free shuttle buses, which are making allstops.
  • For direct service between Manhattan/Downtown Brooklyn and Coney Island, taketrains.
  • trains are running between 96 St and Kings Hwy.

Other subway service changes

Late-night downtown​ and​trains are running on the express track from 72 St to Times Sq-42 St from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday and from 11:45 p.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Sunday because of station maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take an uptown local train.

trains, the Bronx

Manhattan-boundtrains aren't stopping at Moshulu Pkwy or Bedford Park Blvd-Lehman College from 5:45 a.m. Saturday to 10 p.m. Sunday because of track maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Woodlawn-bound train.

trains, the Bronx

Manhattan-boundtrains are running on the express track from Pelham Bay Park to Hunts Point Av from 3:45 a.m. Saturday to 10 p.m. Sunday because of track replacement work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Pelham Bay Park-bound train.
  • trains are running less frequently in the Bronx. The last stop for alternate Bronx-bound trains is 3 Av-138 St. Transfer to a Pelham Bay Park-bound train to continue your trip.

trains, Manhattan

From 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, downtownand localtrains are running on the express track from 59 St-Columbus Circle to Canal St and downtowntrains are running on the express track from 42 St/Port Authority Bus Terminal to Canal St. This is because of electrical improvement work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take an uptown train.

Uptown​and local​trains are running on the express track from 125 St to 168 St from 11:15 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a downtown train.

trains, the Bronx

Norwood-boundtrains aren't stopping at 170 St, 174-175 Sts, or 182-183 Sts from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of electrical maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Manhattan-bound train.

trains, Brooklyn

Bay Ridge-boundand Coney Island-boundlocal trains are running on the express track from Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr to 36 St from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday. This is because of track maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a local Manhattan-bound train.

trains, Queens

From 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, Forest Hills-boundand Jamaica-bound localtrains are running on the express track from Queens Plaza to Forest Hills-71 Av and Jamaica-bound localtrains are running on the express track from 21 St-Queensbridge to Forest Hills-71 Av. This is because of track maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a local Manhattan-bound train.

trains, Manhattan

Uptowntrains are running on the express track between W 4 St-Washington Sq and 34 St-Herald Sq from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of accessibility improvement work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, taken a downtown train.

Long Island Rail Road service changes

Babylon and West Hempstead Branches

Trains aren't stopping at St. Albans in either direction from 10:30 p.m. Friday to 2 a.m. Monday because of accessibility improvement work.

  • Bus service is available between Jamaica and St. Albans.

Ronkonkoma Branch

Buses are replacing trains between Ronkonkoma and Greenport in both directions all day Saturday and Sunday because of crossing replacement work.
