Early History[]

Perseus Jackson was born on August 18th to Sally Jackson and the Greek god Poseidon, Lord of the Seas. Unfortunately, Poseidon was unable to interfere with Percy's life due to the rules that demigods should be raised by their mortal parents. Sally named her son after the Greek god Perseus because he was one of the few heroes who earned a happy ending. Feeling neglected by his father made Percy act out. When he was young, his mother married Gabe Ugliano for an unspecified reason, as he was emotionally abusive and always gambled on horses. Despite this, Percy became friends with their superintendent, Eddie.

When he was younger, he saw things he couldn't believe, such as a black Pegasus on the roof or mechanical animals wandering New York. He often went to private schools and was usually a loner until he met Grover Underwood, his first real friend. He also used the Mystomagic card games to test Percy's Greek knowledge.

At one point, Percy and Sally would often visit the Metropolitan Museum Of Arts, where they often visited the Statue of Perseus triumphing over Medusa the Gorgon. While they were there, she asked why she named Percy after the great hero and Percy guessed it was because he was a hero. Sally told Percy that he shouldn't judge Medusa or any monster or hero in general because not everything is what it seems either. Some heroes are monsters and some monsters are the heroes. She admitted that she named Percy after the hero Perseus because he fought against all odds and earned his way toward a happy ending.

Unknown to him at the time, Grover was a Satyr sent to protect Percy at all costs and the method Magic cards were secretly demigod training lessons. Unfortunately, the two were often bullied by Nancy Bobofit, an obnoxious twelve-year-old girl.

Season One[]

I Accidentally Vaporize My Pre-Algebra Teacher[]

On the class field trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Artwork, the class was tasked with studying Greek mythology. When Percy minds his own business, Nancy starts bothering him. Mr. Brenner, Percy's favorite teacher, takes Percy aside and encourages him to continue his studies by gifting him a simple pen. During lunch, Grover and Percy are eating when Nancy takes her sandwich and throws it at Grover and Percy. Angered, Percy gets up with the intent to confront her. However, he somehow launches her into the Fountain. When Nancy accuses Percy of pushing her into the fountain, Mrs. Dodds approaches Percy and transforms into a fury. Percy is terrified and completely unaware that his pen transformed into a sword. Percy ends up killing her and knocks himself out. When Percy comes to, everyone acknowledges or remembers who Mrs. Dodds is. The next afternoon, Percy and Grover are called into the Headmaster's office. He is ultimately expelled from school due to Grover admitting that Percy was going to do something to get back at Percy. As the boy leaves, upset at being expelled, Percy is comforted by Mr Brenner, who tells Percy he is destined for greatness.

Getting to his apartment, Percy has a confrontation with his stepfather Gabe Ugliono, who brushes off Percy because he is busy betting on horses. After Gabe blows off Percy's concerns, Percy finds his mother Sally sitting outside in the rain and tells her that something weird has been happening at school. This convinces her to take Percy away for the weekend to Montauk, much to Gabe's chagrin. They drive to a cabin on the beach where Sally sits Percy down and tells him that he is, in fact, the son of a god. Percy is incredulous at this news as he never knew his father.

At that moment, Grover approaches the cabin door and begins knocking. Sally quickly rushes to the door and lets Grover in, with the latter coming to warn the Jacksons that they are in terrible danger. However, Percy is distracted by Gover's goat legs; realizing he is outed, Grover tells Percy that he is a Satyr. However, they have no time to explain in the cabin. While they are in the car, Grover takes the opportunity to explain to Percy that he is his guardian. He also reveals that because of the events that took place in the museum, various Greek mythological creatures are now after him. Grover goes on to explain that no one could see Mrs. Dodds as a fury because of The Mist. It is a veil that prevents the human world from seeing the magic world. Grover couldn't see her because the magic in their world was in flux.

While driving, the group is suddenly attacked by a minotaur who tries to run them off the road. After crashing, they spot a tree in the distance which Grover claims is their destination. Sally tells Percy to be brave and uses his coat to ward off the minotaur while Percy and Grover flee, but during the commotion, the minotaur grabs Sally and she suddenly disintegrates. Enraged, Percy takes his pen out, turns it into a sword, and attacks the minotaur. He ultimately manages to defeat it with its own horn.

Percy passes out but awakens to the sound of other children wondering if Percy is okay. He looks in the distance and hears Mr. Brunner talking, but sees what looks like a centaur before the former passes out.

I Become the Supreme Lord of the Bathroom[]

For the next two days, Percy recovered in the infirmary, where Annabeth Chase nurses Percy back to health. Percy briefly awakens to the sound of Annabeth Chase telling him that he drools in his sleep. When he awakens fully, he is greeted by Grover who tells him that his mother is gone and that he is at Camp Half Blood. Percy has no time to talk and wants to look for his father; he is still mad at his best friend for lying to him since the day they met and when Grover got him expelled from school. Percy wanders around the Big House, where he finds Mr. D, the camp director. He initially possesses Percy's father so he can trick the demigod into getting him wine so he can find a loophole in his banishment. However, Chiron stops Mr. D from taking advantage of Percy's kindness once the boy explains the situation to him. Chiron guides Percy to the Hermes cabin, where he befriends Luke Castellan, who gives Percy his condolences on his mother's death. Unfortunately during his first day at camp, Percy is unable to perform numerous tasks including blacksmithing like Hephaestus or archery like Apollo and he has earned Clarisse La Rue's disdain for him. They fail in their attempts to find out Percy's parentage. At dinner, Percy fears that he will never find out who his father is. Luke then tells Percy the history of Thalia, a daughter of Zeus who sacrificed herself to protect the camp.

After preying on his mother, Percy is accosted by Clarisse and her cohorts, who torture him in the bathroom. However, as they give him a swirly, Percy unknowingly uses his hydrokinesis and uses the toilet water to douse the children of Ares. Percy and Annabeth meet each other; however, he starts to wonder why Annabeth is watching him. Luke later explains that Annabeth always watches the newcomers, hoping they are the ones who will lead her to her dream of going on a quest. However, she is watching Percy longer than anyone before.

During a game of Capture the Flag, Annabeth forces Percy to team up with her against their opponents. She makes him stand position while she wears her invisibility cap. As Percy falls asleep and minds his own business, Clarisse and three of her siblings ambush him. The two fight one-on-one due to Clarisse wanting revenge against Percy for her death in her toilet water. During the fight, Percy is injured by Clarisse; however, he manages to beat her in battle while destroying her electric spear. At that moment, Annabeth removes her cap, surprising Percy. He grows angry with her when he realizes she was there the entire time and did nothing to help him. To add insult to injury, Annabeth pushes Percy into the lake, much to Percy's fury. However, at that moment, a holographic trident hovers over Percy's head, and his injuries immediately disappear. Chiron announces that Percy's father, Poseidon, has officially claimed him as his son.

As a result, Percy moves out of the Hermes cabin and into Poseidon's. The next day, he goes to the Big House, where Mr. D and Chiron tell Percy about the theft of Zeus' master bolt. If he wants to clear his name, Percy will have to travel to the Underworld and reclaim the Bolt from Hades and return it to Zeus (who believes the child of a major god stole it during the Winter Solstice) before the summer solstice or there will be war. However, Percy initially rejects their proposal because he is angry with his father for neglecting him his entire life. He angrily proclaims that he is "Sally Jackson's son" and refuses to answer the call. However, Grover, not being able to lie to Percy anymore, tells his best friend that his mother, Sally is still alive but she is a prisoner of Hades in the Underworld. Percy reluctantly accepts this quest if this is an opportunity to save his mother. Chiron tells Percy that he may bring two people with him to journey to the Underworld.

We Visit the Garden Gnome Emporium[]

Percy goes to see the Oracle before he sets off, who gives him the prophecy in the form of Percy's stepfather in green smoke. The vision warns Percy that he will face the god who has turned, one of his friends will betray him, and they will lose what truly matters in the end. Disturbed by this, Percy chooses Grover, knowing he will always have his back, and then Annabeth Chase, believing that they could never be friends. Before he sets off, Luke gives Percy shoes with wing that he stole from his dad's house. The group passes by Thalia'S tree, where Percy learns from Annabeth and Grover that Thalia is the tree that guards Camp Half-Blood They take a greyhound bus to New Jersey, where Percy and Annabeth continu to butt-heads, much to Grover's annoyance. Annabeth leaves to get some foot while Percy and Grover stay in the bus. However, Annabeth returns and informs the boys that there is a Fury after them and they need to leave. The children quickly run away from the scene and make it to Aunty Em's Garden Emporium. They try to leave but Alecto corners them and Medusa is their only option, as she offers them sanctuary.

At Medusa's house, the woman tries to convince Percy that she can "free" him by freezing Grover and Annabeth so he can save his mother on his own. However, Percy quickly runs, enraging Medusa, who takes off her hat and visor, getting ready to turn them all to stone. Percy, Annabeth, and Grover hide in the basem*nt, where Medusa's other petrified victims are at. As Medusa follows the into her basem*nt, Grover distracts Medusa, Annabeth puts her invisibility cap on her and Percy decaptitates her. He goes to confront Alecto, where he kills her with Medusa's head for a second time. When Annabeth and Percy return, they find that Grover spotted his uncle Ferdinand, who was one of Medusa's past victims during his quest to find Pan. As the two start fighting when Percy and Annabeth learn about their respective deals that Medusa and Alecto offered up, Grover snaps at Percy and Annabeth, where he reveals that he is frustrated at keeping them all together. Percy also learns that Annabeth suffers the same familial drama he does. Percy decides to reveal what the prophecy warned him about: someone he calls friend will betray him. However, Annabeth and Grover prove their worth Rather than use Annabeth's invisibility cap and hide Medusa's head in her basem*nt, Percy decides to send it to Olympus as a way to mock them.

Physical appearance[]

Percy is depicted as being a young, white, teenage boy with messy blonde hair and blue eyes. His clothing consists of a blue t-shirt, a green plaid jacket, blue denim jeans, and a necklace. This contradicts the book, where he has black hair and sea-green eyes.

Like all the other kids at Camp Half-Blood, he dons an orange shirt and occasionally Greek-inspired armor.

Personality[]

Percy Jackson is a young boy who lives in Manhattan with his mother, Sally Jackson, and Gabe Ugliano. He discovered he was a half-blood (or demigod) at the age twelve and that his father was Poseidon, god of the seas. He is still somewhat furious at his best friend Grover Underwood, because he both got him expelled from Yancy Academy and learned that he was a satyr who was supposed to protect him. However, he was still somewhat furious with him. Upon reaching Camp Half-blood, he was initially good friends with Luke Castellan, who sympathized with him due to his mother's apparent death. He is also bullied by Clarisse La Rue and has a complicated relationship with Annabeth Chase, who nursed him back to health. He later learns that his father, Poseidon, has claimed him because Zeus believed Percy stole the master bolt during the camps field trip during winter solstice.

Percy is typically portrayed as being something of a smart mouth, but loyal and protective of his friends and family. He is initially annoyed and cynical upon discovering that he is a demigod but quickly grows into the role. Due to feeling neglected by his father and the world, Percy holds onto his mother. For example, when he was referred to as the "son of Poseidon", Percy yelled he was Sally Jackson's son because she was the only one who stood by him.

Fatal Flaw[]

His fatal flaw is excessive personal loyalty to his friends and family

Fears[]

Powers and Abilities[]

  • Hydrokinesis: Percy has control over all forms of water and can bend it to his will.
    • Water Resistance: Percy is also capable of submerging himself completely without getting wet. However, this doesn't work on the river Styx.
    • Underwater Breathing: He can submerge himself in water without the need to come up for air, as well.
  • ADHD: (implied). Percy's ADHD allows him to become more impulsive and inattentive in class. However, in battle, it heightens his senses and allows him to stay alert in battle. It is what helped him during his battle with the Minotaur
  • Dyslexia: (implied) Percy can decipher ancient Greek. However, he has trouble reading English words.

Possessions[]

  • Riptide: He is also equipped with a pen that transforms into a bronze sword and that he is incapable of losing. The sword usually vibrates whenever danger is near. According to Chiron, the pen will always return to him unless Percy gives it up. The sword was forged by the nymph, Zoë Nightshade and originally owned by Hercules.

Difference from the source material[]

  • Percy has blonde hair and blue eyes as opposed to having the book character's signature black hair and sea green eyes.
  • He was expelled from school because Grover states that Percy intentionally pushed Nancy into the fountain instead of calling a teacher by an insulting name. This was likely changed due to it being more reasonable that Percy would get kicked out of school rather than insulting a teacher.
  • He never encountered the Fates and ditched Grover when they were in New York City.
  • Sally is the one who tells Percy that he is a half-Blood. It has not been revealed yet if Sally also married Gabe for the same reasons she did in the book.
  • Gabe's abuse towards Percy and Sally is greatly toned down in the series and is one of the show's heavier criticized plot

Trivia[]

  • Percy was named after the Greek hero Perseus due to him being the only hero in Greek mythology to brave the storm and have a happy ending.
    • Similar to Perseus, Percy is threatened by a major authority figure who represents King Polydictes (his step-father Gabe) and decapitated Medusa. The only difference is Perseus slayed Medusa in her sleep. Similar to Polydictes, Gabe is turned to stone in the books by the media's head
  • Before Walker Scobell portrayed him, Percy was played by Logan Lerman in the two live-action film adaptations and Chris McCarrell in the Broadway musical.
    • In all prior adaptations, Percy is depicted as having black hair, just like in the books.
    • Navigation This is the first time he is portrayed with blonde hair, Walker Scobell's natural hair color.
  • Gabe's relationship with Sally and Percy being significantly toned down is one of the most heavily criticized elements in the series. However, some fans who have been victims of abuse have praised the show for how they handled it.
  • In the novels, Percy has black hair and green eyes instead of blonde hair and blue eyes. He unintentionally swapped hair colors with Annabeth, who now has black hair.
