Dear friend, the painstaking and long-awaited journey has graciously come to an end. Albeit it wasn't without its myriads of challenges. For me, i would say that you heard about it, you went for it, and you conquered. Congratulations for adding a feather to your cap even as we look forward to the translation of the acquired knowledge into its physical equivalence. Bravo Dr Japhet Makama. 🤗 🤗 🤗

Last week, I presented my PhD project and shared my experience as a PhD student with penultimate-year students who are interested in pursuing a PhD.Many describe a PhD as a long, lonely, and challenging journey. I tend to agree because, unlike undergrad studies where group work is common, PhD work often requires you to navigate the path on your own, seeking solutions independently when challenges arise. You'll find yourself immersed in research every day which can be quite lost in the initial stages. For me, doing research is like cultivating a garden. Planting a few flowers in your backyard is enjoyable, but nurturing an entire flower farm can be dull and stressful. Therefore, a PhD isn't solely for the intellectually gifted; it's a journey for the hardworking and persistent. Your passion is the one that will gently nudge you and say, "It's fine, let's try it again" when frustration sets in.For students considering a future in academia, I encourage you to reflect on your passion for research, your determination, and your willingness to embrace the challenges. A PhD is indeed a scary undertaking, but with the right mindset and support, it can be an immensely rewarding one.

What does PhD stand for🎓🎓PhD stands for Doctor of Philosophy, which is a high-level academic degree. It is an acronym for the Latin phrase (Ph)ilosophiae (D)octor, which means 'lover of wisdom'.◼️◼️The PhD Process▪️A PhD typically takes three to four years full-time or five to six years part-time. ▪️It is a research degree rather than an academic one. ▪️The procedure includes a literature evaluation, original research, thesis development, dissertation writing, and thesis defence.◼️◼️PhD: Understanding and Purpose▪️A PhD is a challenging and unique field that requires at least three years of dedication after completing an undergraduate degree.▪️It requires self-sufficiency and doesn't directly advance a career.▪️A PhD is rewarding as it allows for a genuine contribution to human knowledge and the creation of future research work.▪️Few people go on to do academic work at this level, but a PhD provides an impressive qualification and title.▪️Non-academic careers are increasingly recognising the unique skills and experience a PhD brings. For more information:🌐englobaleducation.co.uk

Every person's Ph.d experience is unique. A quick google search will tell you that many go into the academic tract and end up leaving it either while studying Ph.D. or even later on. What a Ph.D. used to offer during generation X is totally different than us the millenials. Now people are being stuck at the postdoc phase and it often take years and years before you find something else in an academic setting. Check with anyone you know who finished a Ph.D in the past 3-4 years and you'll see what i mean. Also, universities are increasingly hiring part time lecturers instead of assistant professours so that they dont pay you good enough. Now, if you want a Ph.D. and want to work in non profit or UN agencies, then I think it is just not right because experience would allow you to reach far without spending 3-5 years earning another degree. If you plan to work in pharmaceutical or industrial settings, then a Ph.D. will help you advance in your career.I would say that someone deeply passionate about research would go to that track whatever the pros and cons are because life is short and you would want to do what makes you feel fullfilled. But it is very important to know the pros and cons especially if you are a caregiver.
