I don’t know about you, but for me, life just seems to get busier and more hectic every day.

Often it means that cooking tasty, healthy meals that everyone in the house will love can sometimes be a bit of a challenge but I think that my Gluten FreeBacon Cheeseburger Pasta will make everyone happy.

I was looking through an old Taste of Home recipe book recently when I came across a very similar recipe and knew instantly that it would be something that I could tweak to cook on a weeknight without too much stress.

And most importantly I knew my family would enjoy it!

I have two boys at home and as predicted they really loved this recipe and even asked me to make it again.

My youngest son is eleven, he had two bowls for dinner and asked for a third, it was that good!

He even insisted on having a bowl when he came home from school the next day instead of his usual snack.

Did I mention how simple it is to make?

You can throw this together and have it cooked and ready to serve in less than thirty minutes, and you probably have most of the ingredients in your pantry already.

If you are gluten free, or have gluten free family or friends this would be a very easy dish to make for them.

Simply substitute gluten free pasta for regular and make sure the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce is gluten free and you are good to go!

If they are also dairy free like I am then you can use a shredded vegan cheese substitute, it works just as well. Oh, and if you’re looking for a nice vegetarian alternative then you’ll love this One Pot Taco Spaghetti from Vegetarian Mama.

Ingredients

  • 8ozgluten free elbow macaroni pasta, 226g
  • 1lblean ground beef, 453g
  • 6piecesbacon strips, cooked and cut into
  • 1.5cupsgluten free beef broth, 355mls
  • 1/2tspgluten free Worcestershire sauce
  • 3tbspketchup
  • 2tbspcornstarch
  • 1cupshredded cheddar cheese, or vegan cheese, 113g,
  • 1/2cupshredded mozzarella cheese, or vegan cheese, 56g

Instructions

  1. Please watch my short recipe video before you start! It’s right below the directions.

  2. Cook the bacon first, I prefer to cook it on a sheet pan in the oven until it’s crispy but you can cook it whatever way you prefer. Drain it on paper towels and cut it or break it into small pieces and set aside.

  3. Cook your gluten free macaroni according to directions on the pack, then drain.

  4. While the macaroni is cooking, brown the beef in a large skillet until fully cooked. If after cooking the beef has a lot of fat/liquid/juice left you can pour some of that off, I prefer to use lean beef and keep some of the juice as I think it adds to the flavor.

  5. Measure the beef broth,Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, and cornstarch into a small bowl or measuring jug and mix well to combine the cornstarch.

  6. Add cooked pasta to the skillet along with the beef broth mixture, stir well to combine ground beef, pasta, bacon, and sauce.

  7. Cook on a medium heat until the sauce bubbles and thickens. If it’s too thick for you, thin it out with a little more beef broth.

  8. Sprinkle shredded cheese over the top of the skillet cheeseburger mixture.

  9. Cover and cook on low heat until cheese has melted, about 2-3 minutes.

  10. serve hot.

I really like this, the cornflour gives it a very floury taste though which put me off a bit though

I’m sorry it tasted floury, I’ve never had that issue with using cornflour before. Usually when it’s dissolved in liquid it has no taste. you can reduce the amount of cornflour if you like.

Sheena, I’ve developed lots of recipes for my gluten-free friends. I have several, none who are celiac but rather sensitive. And the number of good quality gluten-free pastas out there seems to be increasing all the time. Your gorgeous bacon cheeseburger pasta looks like something my friends and I are going to love!

Hi Jean, thank you for your kind comments! I found a pasta recently that was made from lentils and nothing else, it was really good but a little pricey.

FAQs

What's the trick to cooking gluten-free pasta? ›

The secret to firm pasta starts with an ice-water bath. This halts the cooking process immediately, so the pasta doesn't continue to cook in the colander. Trust me; this works on all brands of gluten free pasta.

How to make gluten-free pasta taste like regular pasta? ›

Don't forget to salt the water.

On its own, gluten-free pasta is really pretty tasteless. It needs seasoning, in the form of salt, just like regular pasta. After the water comes to a boil, add enough salt to make the water taste like the ocean (about 1/4 cup for a large pot of water), before adding the pasta.

Should you salt the water for gluten-free pasta? ›

Add a little olive oil to the pot.

Season the pot of water with two tablespoons Diamond kosher salt OR four teaspoons Morton's kosher salt per one gallon of water. Salty water is one of the keys to good pasta, gluten-free or not.

What is gluten-free pasta made from? ›

What is Gluten-Free Pasta? Coming in all the classic pasta shapes and sizes you love, gluten-free pasta noodles are those that have been made without wheat or any other gluten-containing ingredients by replacing them with corn, rice, and even potato flour.

What to avoid when cooking gluten-free? ›

Avoid "convenience" ingredients such as gravy mixes, soup mixes, bottled sauces, salad dressings, condiments, and seasoning mixes, since these may contain gluten-based ingredients. Check a list of gluten-free foods for safer ingredients.

How to cook gluten-free pasta without it falling apart? ›

Because of the starch, gluten-free pasta noodles tend to cling together. Add a glug of olive oil to the water and make sure to run a spoon through it to redistribute every 30 seconds during the first few minutes of cooking. Once the pasta has begun to plump you don't have to worry about it as much.

What flour is best for pasta? ›

Semolina flour is good for pasta because it's a hard variety of wheat and has a high protein content. Both of these properties give more structure to pasta which provides that elusive 'al dente' quality to fresh pastas.

What gluten-free pasta is closest to regular pasta? ›

Chickpea Pasta

Chickpea pasta is a newer type of gluten-free pasta that has recently garnered a good deal of attention among health-conscious consumers. It's very similar to regular pasta but with a hint of chickpea flavor and a slightly more chewy texture.

Does gluten-free pasta taste as good as regular pasta? ›

Why does gluten-free pasta fall apart? ›

If cooked properly, it turns out perfectly al dente and is even good cold in a pasta salad. Gluten-free pasta in general is tricky and one minute overcooked will produce a mushy pasta that splits and falls apart.

Should you rinse gluten-free pasta before cooking? ›

Gluten free pasta tends to absorb more sauce than normal pasta. This means you might need to add more water to the sauce as you mix it through the pasta. Don't rinse your pasta.

Does gluten-free pasta take less time to cook? ›
