Get To Know The Redesigned 2024 Toyota Tacoma Hybrid (2024)

You might think you already know all about the 2024 Toyota Tacoma, but just you wait: A whole slew of hybrid trims are coming, too, and we’ve finally been blessed with all the details about what those trims entail. Today, I’m giving y’all a rundown of the info you need to know about those trims, along with some gorgeous photos of the Tacohybrids I had a chance to drive earlier this month.

The Taco boasts five different trims that are available with its hybrid powertrain: TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, Limited, Trailhunter, and TRD Pro. The Limited, seen above, is the only trim more designed for on-road driving than off-road rambling.

Every Taco hybrid is outfitted with a hybrid powertrain composed of a turbocharged 2.4-liter I4 engine and an electric motor. That configuration means each hybrid truck has 326 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque.

The previous Tacoma generation was begging for a much-needed interior update, especially when it comes to the tech. The hybrid models all come with a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and an available 14-inch touchscreen, both of which look modern and feel incredibly responsive. The screen resolution is great, and as a shorter human, I’m a big fan of the addition of the adjustable steering column and the raised seating position when compared to the previous gen.

Since it’s a mid-size pickup, rear-seat passengers won’t have a whole ton of room in the back seat, but it’s still plenty for anyone of a more compact size. In the rear, you’ve got 38.4 inches of headroom, 33.7 inches of legroom, 57.8 inches of shoulder room, and 56.3 inches of hip room.

All hybrid trims are available in the 4x4 double cab configuration and a five-foot or six-foot bed (the latter being specific to the Trailhunter). Each bed has in-bed LED lighting with a standard 2400W AC power supply, plus a deck rail system with adjustable tie-down points and a power tailgate. On the Trailhunter, you can opt for a full bed rack as a Toyota Genuine Accessory.

Yes, you’ve got plenty of delicious buttons to press in the new Taco, but this layout also shows how you access different drive modes, the transfer case, and camera angles.

Along with updates to its capability, the 2024 Tacoma has also undergone a serious makeover. The truck has benefitted from a more carved, edgy look full of sharp angles that convey a great sense of off-road capability while still looking attractive and modern.

The Multi-Terrain Monitor is the name for the display of multiple camera angles offered on the Tacoma. You can select different views to check out obstacles in your path, while some shadowy overlays represent your tires. It makes it extremely easy to see where you’re going, even off-road.

On the TRD Pro trim, you have something called IsoDynamic Performance seats for the front passengers. They integrate air-over-oil shock absorbers that absorb the off-road beating you might be giving your truck. Drive a truck with one of these seats, and you may very well start to believe you’ve got the Baja racer gene in your system.

Since JBL provides the sound systems for the hybrid Tacos, we were treated to a display model of a fully-equipped JBL-built Trailhunter trim that also includes tons of options designed to show what this new overlanding trim can do.

If you see “ARB” on plenty of these parts, that’s because Toyota has partnered with the 4x4 accessory manufacturer to create plenty of Toyota-sanctioned options. Anyone who wants to hit the overlanding trail can select the components that will fulfill their specific needs.

I’m not sure what Toyota’s formal name for this handle/storage space is, but each trim has it, and it serves as an excellent “Oh sh*t” handle for your passengers when you get a little wild out on the trail.

The Trailhunter trim features part-time 4WD, an electronic locking rear differential, Old Man Emu forged monotube shocks, a front stabilizer disconnect mechanism, a 2400W AC power supply in the bed, and plenty of removable MOLLE panels.
