What do you need to make this delectable lemon meringue pie soap recipe?

This lemon soap recipe is very similar in smell and appearance to a lemon pie with one exception – it starts with a shea butter melt and pour soap base, not flour and sugar!

What’s The Difference Between Cold Process Soap and Melt and Pour Soap?

Starting with a soap base is one of the things I love most about melt and pour soap vs cold process soap!

You see, a melt and pour soap base is like using a lemon pudding mix, a store-bought graham cracker crust, and whipped topping to make lemon meringue pie. You’ll still get all three fabulous layers of lemon delight but without all the headaches of making a pie from complete scratch.

How? Melt-and-pour soap recipes are:

  • As quick as a cake mix, you’ll have your soap poured in minutes instead of hours!
  • Allow you to skip the headaches of working with active lye because the soap base has already gone through saponification.
  • It’s great for beginners and doesn’t require expensive equipment.
  • And melt and pour soap recipes don’t take weeks to cure, a few hours is all you need before lathering up with your freshly made soap.
  • It’s also safe to make melt and pour soap with kids. No active lye equals no safety gear or harsh chemicals.

Seriously, the most difficult part is not digging your teeth into these creamy lemon meringue pie soaps!

When you say easy, you mean?

It all will come together in the blink of an eye. You may be surprised to know this soap recipe only requires 4 ingredients!

Oh yeah, when I said it was easy. I meant it was E-A-S-Y.

A melt and pour soap base gives you the ability to make soap with minimal ingredients. The shea butter melt and pour soap base creates a rich moisturizing lather. And for the lemon meringue scent, all you’ll need is vanilla and lemon essential oil. To complete the look, I topped each soap tart with freshly grated lemon rind. That’s it!

You can leave out the lemon rind and exchange the essential oils for a lemon pie soap fragrance. Either way, all you’ll have to do is melt, mix, pour, and grate.

And when you’re finished, you’ll have a fresh, bright soap perfect for lemon lovers like myself. Mmm, so good.

How To Make Lemon Meringue Pie Soap Tarts

Unlike the real deal, this lemon meringue soap recipe is nowhere near daunting to make. With just 4 ingredients and steps taking you through each detail, you’ll be done in a flash!

To mimic pie, I used tart tins straight from my farmhouse kitchen sprayed with a little olive oil. You could use a bread loaf pan lined with parchment paper.

But, to be honest, soap making is easier with silicone molds – soap always pops out easily from them. If you have trouble getting these out, pop them in the freezer, then tap them on a cutting board.

But be aware if you’re using a metal container as soap mold, make sure you avoid all of these types of metal.

Instructions to Make Lemon Meringue Pie Soap:

  1. Prepare four tart tins by cleaning, drying, and spritzing with rubbing alcohol.
  2. Carefully chop ½ pound of shea butter soap base into cubes that are approximately ½” to 1” in size using a soap knife.
  3. Scoop the chopped soap base into a large glass measuring cup. Then, place it in the microwave to melt the soap base in 30-second intervals, stirring intermittently to avoid burning.
  4. Promptly remove the melted soap base from the microwave and add ¼ teaspoon lemon peel powder. Using a non-stick, heat-resistant spatula, blend the soap and lemon peel powder together to create a soft yellow color mimicking lemon pie.
  5. Next, add 20 drops each of lemon and vanilla essential oil. Or substitute for .25 ounces of lemon pie soap fragrance.
  6. Pour the colored and scented soap mixture into the prepared tart tins. Carefully distribute evenly between each section to avoid overflow.
  7. If needed, spritz with rubbing alcohol to remove bubbles in the soap. Allow soap to cool in the mold for one to two hours or until solid before removing.

Note: This melt and pour soap recipe makes 4 lemon pie soap tarts.

I’m so glad I found a way to enjoy lemon meringue pie without all the work. These pie soaps are really a hit! So refreshing and with such a rich lather. And the rustic simplicity is everything farmhouse chic should be.
