Is I-95 the same as I-295? ›

Interstate 295 is a branch from I-95 near the Woodrow Wilson Bridge through Anacostia and north to an interchange with I-695 and District of Columbia Route 295 (DC 295).

I-295, a 53-mile bypass of the cities of Richmond and Petersburg, provides north-south, east-west, and cross-directional bypasses for traffic on both I-95 and I-64.

Construction on the route started in 1976 at Mechanicsville. The final 9.8 mile long stretch, between Virginia Route 36 and Interstate 95 southeast of Petersburg, open to traffic on June 25, 1992.

Currently, I -95 runs from Philadelphia north across the Delaware River at the Scudders Fall Bridge into New Jersey and ends at the US Route 1 Interchange, where the roadway becomes I-295.
