Abstract

Archive Tucson is a collection of interviews about life and change in Tucson and Southern Arizona. All interviews are conducted by our resident Oral Historian, Aengus Anderson.

Abstract

Two holograph letters, dated Aug. 6 and Dec. 6, 1796, Presidio de San Agustín del Tucson, to Bishop Fray Francisco Rouset de Jesus, Diocese of Sonora, Mexico. Contains brief description and inventory of his church; and mentions Native Americans, civilians, and military in the area, and the needs of the church. Typed transcriptions and English summaries are included.

Abstract

Pioneer, Tucson, Ariz.; served as Clerk of the Pima County Board of Supervisors, and Clerk of the District Court of Arizona's First Judicial District. Holograph account book of financial transactions for monies collected for recording deeds and mortgages and writing bonds, Jan. 15, 1866 to Jan. 5, 1873. Includes transactions with many prominent Arizonans.

Campbell and Pereira photograph collection, circa 1890–1950, contains black and white prints of daily life in Arizona. The photographs showcase buildings, businesses, education, entertainment, landscape, people, and transportation between 1890 and 1950. The bulk of the photographs were taken in Tucson, Arizona.

Abstract

Papers of Bernice Cosulich consists of correspondence, published and unpublished articles, clippings, scrapbooks, photographs, and notes related to Cosulich’s work writing for the Arizona Daily Star newspaper and various magazines, her book Tucson, and future projects including a projected biography of actress Helena Modjeska and a work on Arizona’s ghost towns, dating between 1923 and 1956.

Abstract

Documents highlight the discovery of Silver at Arizonac in 1736 in the jurisdiction of Don Juan Bautista de Anza, the Chief Justice for His Majesty in the Province of Sonora, the career of his son, also named Don Juan Bautista de Anza (1736-1788), who was the Governor of New Mexico, and the military career of Don Josè de Zùñiga (1755 – 1794).

Edward Nye Fish, 1827-1914, was a Merchant and businessman in Tucson, Arizona. This collection contains general ledgers and daily cash books dealing with his harness and saddlery shop, butcher shop, and other business interests in Tucson, Ariz. Consists of eight bound volumes.

Abstract

This collection contains materials relating to Bernard (Bunny) Fontana, a prominent anthropologist and active community member in Southern Arizona. Materials include activity files, which include documentation of activities in organizations, speeches, conferences, and research; writings, which include manuscripts and book reviews. Also included is correspondence, personal files and oversize materials. Series VI includes 1/4 inch audio tape oral history interviews with Fontana.

Abstract

John Elles Harrison, 1886-1957, was a Tucson realtor and businessman; active in the creation of the Saguaro National Monument. He acted as agent for the University of Arizona Board of Regents to assemble land and clear titles. Collection contains correspondence, newspaper clippings, and a blueprint map relating to the establishment of Saguaro National Monument, Tucson, Arizona.

The International Arts Society Cinema Club Records are comprised of financial, planning, and program files, programs, tickets, intermittent membership rolls, and newspaper clippings about the organization for the full span of its existence, 1953-2007. The International Arts Society was founded in 1953 at the University of Arizona in Tucson to “present mature cinema for the enjoyment and edification of University faculty, staff, and students.”
