CHEEZ WHIZ RECIPES: IMPROMPTU FONDUES

Dip into these fine fondue ideas. Smooth-melting Cheez Whiz process cheese spread makes a quick fondue base. Try the fondue variations suggested below. Or, go creative and think up your own Cheez Whiz fondue recipes. It’s easy with any of the 5 Cheez Whiz flavors.

BASIC FONDUE RECIPE

16-oz. jar Cheez Whiz
1/2 cup Parkay Margarine
French bread chunks

Heat Cheez Whiz and margarine in fondue pot or saucepan, stirring occasionally. Serve hot with bread. Makes 2 cups.

SPECIAL VARIATIONS

TOMATO ‘N ONION: Stir in 1/2 cup chopped tomatoes and 2 tablespoons chopped onion. Makes 2-1/2 cups.

CHILI CON CORN: Stir in one 8-1/2 ounce can whole kernel corn, drained, 1/4 cup chopped pimiento and 2 tablespoons chopped green chilies. Makes 2-1/2 cups.

TUNA PEPPER UPPER: Substitute two 8-02. jars Pimento Cheez Whiz for Cheez Whiz. Stir in a 7-ounce can of drained tuna and 1/4 cup chopped green pepper.

SAUSAGE & MUSHROOMS: Substitute two 8-oz. jars Garlic-Onion Cheez Whiz for Cheez Whiz. Add a 4-ounce can of Vienna sausage, chopped, and a small jar sliced mushrooms, drained. Makes 3 cups.

SAUCY SWISS: Substitute two 8-oz. jars Nut-Sweet Swiss Flavor Cheez Whiz for Cheez Whiz, and reduce margarine to 1/4 cup. Stir in 1/4 cup dry white wine. Makes 2 cups.

JALAPENO PEPPY: Substitute two 8-oz. jars of Jalapeno Cheez Whiz for Cheez Whiz. Add 1 cup chopped tomato. Makes 2-1/2 cups.

DENVER OPTION: Stir in 2 tablespoons chopped pimiento. 2 tablespoons chopped green pepper and 2 tablespoons chopped onion. Makes 2 cups.

PARTY PINEAPPLE: Substitute two 8-oz. jars Nut-Sweet Swiss Flavor Cheez Whiz for Cheez Whiz, and reduce margarine to 1/4 cup. Stir in one 13-1/4 ounce can crushed pineapple, drained, 1/4 cup chopped green pepper and 1/4 cup slivered almonds, toasted. Makes 3 cups.

CHICKEN N’ RICE BAKE

1-1/2 cups cooked rice
8-oz. jar Garlic-Onion Cheez Whiz Pasteurized Process Cheese Spread
2 cups chopped cooked chicken
10-oz. pkg. frozen peas cooked,drained
3-1/2 oz. can French fried onions

Heat oven to 350°. Combine rice and Cheez Whiz, mixing until well blended. Stir in chicken and peas. Pour into 10 x 6-inch baking dish. Bake at 350°, 15 minutes. Top with onions; continue baking 5 to 10 minutes or until hot. Makes 4 to 6 servings.

CHEEZ WHIZ RECIPES: SANDWICH IDEAS

EGGS EL DORADO

1/4 cup chopped onion
cup chopped green pepper
2 tablespoons Parkay Margarine
8-oz. jar Pimento Pasteurized Process Cheese Spread
4 hard-cooked eggs, sliced
4 English muffins, split, toasted

Sauté onion and green pepper in margarine. Add Cheez Whiz and eggs; heat. For each serving, spoon mixture over two muffin halves. 4 servings.

MONTEREY BARBECUE SANDWICH

1 lb. ground beef
1/2 cup chopped onion
16-oz. can kidney beans, drained
1/3 cup Kraft Barbecue Sauce
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup Cheez Whiz Pasteurized Process Cheese Spread
6 hamburger buns, split and toasted

Brown meat; drain. Add onion; cook until tender. Stir in beans, barbecue sauce and salt; cover and simmer 20 minutes. Add Cheez Whiz; stir until melted. For each sandwich. cover bottom half of bun with meat mixture and top half of bun. 6 servings.

CIRCLE BURGERS

1 lb. ground beef
1 teaspoon salt
2 English muffins, split. toasted
Kraft Pure Prepared Mustard
Garlic-Onion Cheez Whiz

Combine meat and salt; mix lightly. Form into doughnut-shaped patties; broil on both sides to desired doneness. For each sandwich. spread muffin half with mustard; top with patty. Spoon Cheez Whiz into center of patty. Broil until Cheez Whiz melts. 4 sandwiches.

TEMPTING TURKEY

1-1/2 cups chopped cooked turkey
8-oz. jar Nut-Sweet Swiss Flavor Cheez Whiz
10-oz. pkg. frozen broccoli spears, cooked and drained
4 white bread slices, toasted

Combine turkey and Cheez Whiz; heat over low heat. For each serving. place broccoli spears on slice of toast; top with turkey mixture. 4 servings.

CHEEZ WHIZ RECIPES: SIDE DISH IDEAS

GOURMET GREEN BEANS

6 bacon slices
1/4 cup chopped onion
2 9-oz. pkgs. frozen cut green beans, cooked, drained
8-oz. jar Nut-Sweet Swiss Flavor Cheez Whiz Pasteurized Process Cheese Spread
2-1/2 ounce jar sliced mushrooms, drained

Fry bacon until crisp; remove from skillet. Drain fat. reserving 1 tablespoon. Crumble bacon. Sauté onion in bacon fat until tender. Add bacon, green beans, Cheez Whiz and mushrooms. Heat, stirring occasionally. 6 to 8 servings.

EASY POTATOES AU GRATIN

3-1/2 cups potato slices
8-oz. jar Cheez Whiz Pasteurized Process Cheese Spread

Heat oven to 350 F. Place potatoes in a 1-quart casserole. Heat Cheez Whiz over low heat; pour over potatoes. Cover casserole with aluminum foil. Bake at 350°, 45 minutes; uncover and continue baking 15 minutes. 6 servings.

  4. I loved the Squeeze A Snack pictured in an ad in the middle of this article. It came in different varieties but my favorite was hot pepper flavor. I would still buy this if available now.
